THE SPARE TYRES

GB
1967
27mins
Dir: Michael Lane
Starring: Terence Alexander and Judy Franklin

After moving into a new house, two old tyres found dumped in the garden prove a problem to dispose of

This quirky comedy short features a scene at the end that was filmed at Northolt station on the Central Line with a 1962-stock train calling on a West Ruislip service. This is interspersed with scenes filmed outside Surbiton station, the implication being that the two stations are one and the same.

This shot has been included as it shows a wonderful period poster advertising the forthcoming timetable changes surrounding the new electrification to Bournemouth. The car, incidentally, is a Honda S800 Cabriolet. Despite being imported from Japan, this delightful little car was cheaper to buy than a homegrown Mini Cooper or Triumph Spitfire. As a result, it sold quite well in the UK.
