THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER

GB
2021

Dir: Augustine Frizzell
Starring: Felicity Jones and Callum Turner

An ambitious journalist tries to solve the mystery of a forbidden love affair

This unbearably dull romantic drama is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Jojo Moyes and is difficult to watch. The film follows a pair of interwoven stories set in the past and the present, with scenes filmed on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough Central station forming part of the past story, set in 1965. These scenes, are at least, of great interest. The atmospheric scenes were filmed at night with the GCR station standing in for a smoky London Marylebone. The train is formed of three BR Mark 1’s top-and-tailed by two diesels – Class 20 D8098 and Class 08 D4137!!

Another view of the smoky station. Notice the ‘OFF’ indicator, used to tell the station staff that the starting signal has cleared.
If the Class 20 at the front was unusual then the 08 tagged on to the back was even more so. D4137 brings up the rear of the train as it departs from Loughborough Central in the pouring rain.
