TAKE MY LIFE

GB
1947
1hr 19mins
Dir: Ronald Neame
Starring: Hugh Williams and Rosalie Crutchley

A man wrongly accused of murdering an ex-girlfriend must rely on his wife to find the real killer

This really decent crime drama was adapted from Winston Graham’s 1947 novel of the same name and features a couple of reversed stock shots from Brief Encounter (qv), with expresses hauled by an unrebuilt LMS ‘Royal Scot’ 4-6-0 and a streamlined ‘Duchess’ 4-6-2. Later, there is an additional shot of an LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 on an express but the station scenes at Edinburgh, York and London King’s Cross are all studio sets.

Brief Encounter stock shot No.1. A reversed image of an unrebuilt ‘Royal Scot’.
Brief Encounter stock shot No.2. This by now classic image is again reversed.
This is much clearer, and its not from Brief Encounter! An LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 heads towards the camera on an express.
