Ethan Hunt and his IMF team must track down a dangerous weapon before it falls into the wrong hands
This is the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible film series and it features a lengthy sequence set in the Alps in Switzerland with a train travelling at 60 miles an hour through a bridge being blown up. After plans to use a bridge in southern Poland had to be abandoned, the production team switched instead to Stoney Middleton in the Peak District National Park, where a set was constructed in a disused quarry. This included a section of railway line and part of a bridge on a cliff edge. After two weeks of suspended filming, during which time the stretch of train track was employed to shoot the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) (qv), the scene was filmed in August 2021, when a mockup ‘Britannia’ Class locomotive was propelled off the cliff into the quarry. Some of the railway running in this sequence used the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with added CGI effects.
