The last years of British General Charles Gordon in the Sudan

During this epic adventure, there is a scene where General Gordon meets with Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone. This was filmed at night on the Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park station. The film also includes a scene that was shot at London Marylebone station, and although trains feature in both scenes, no locomotives are present.

The Bluebell Railway scene opens with this shot, and it appears to show the Prime Minister, played by Ralph Richardson with General Gordon behind him, leaving the platform signal box!!
General Gordon, played by Charlton Heston, stands alone at Sheffield Park as the train carrying the Prime Minister pulls away
This is London Marylebone, which is straightforward enough. The train in the platform on the other hand is not. It seems that a motley collection of stock that included a brake van was simply cobbled together and painted Midland Railway red! Can anyone add further to this?
