Dir: Julian Fellowes
Starring: Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall

In December 1944, a 13-year-old boy discovers he can mysteriously travel between two worlds

This haunting ghost story has some excellent opening shots filmed at Medstead & Four Marks station on the Mid-Hants Railway. Unusually, no trains feature, but perhaps the production crew for once felt that a historically inaccurate steam train would affect continuity so left it out altogether. The film was adapted from Lucy M. Boston’s children’s novel The Chimneys of Green Knowe (1958).

An excellent low-level shot of a misty Medstead & Four Marks station
A shot looking the other way shows Alex Etel waiting to be picked up from the station
Timothy Spall, Alex Etel, and a 1937 Vauxhall 14/6 DX. This is a rare view of the forecourt and yard outside Medstead & Four Marks station with the dock siding behind the gate.
