A lazy motor mechanic has to deliver a motorcycle to its owner before five o’clock

This Children’s Film Foundation short has a comedy scene filmed at Barcombe Mills on the line from Ashchurch Junction to Lewes. Being brought to a stand at the station’s level crossing, Peter Butterworth takes his motorcycle through the pedestrian gate and nearly gets rundown by a train hauled by a former Southern Railway L1 Class 4-4-0. Oddly, given the fact that the level crossing is at the northern end of the platforms we see nothing of the station at all!

The signalman closes the gates at Barcombe Mills
With the gates now firmly closed, Peter Butterworth contemplates how to get across. The signalman is now inside his box.
