DUSTY BATES

1947
1hr 55mins
Dir: Darrell Catling
Starring: Anthony Newley and Grace Arnold

Taken in by a ship’s Captain, an orphan joins with his children who have formed a secret society intent on solving mysteries and fighting crime

This children’s adventure film was produced by Gaumont-British Instructional and Children’s Entertainment Films, and was also presented by the Rank Organisation. It was in fact a cinema serial originally shown in five parts that was then combined to form a feature length film that is now usually referred to by its alternate title of The Adventures of Dusty Bates. The film has some scenes that were shot at the Gas Light & Coke Company’s gas works in Beckton, E6, and an industrial steam tank loco can be seen in one shot along with some mineral wagons in another. A rail mounted crane also appears to feature in the background of one scene.
