NOTHING BUT THE BEST

GB
1964
1hr 39mins
Dir: Clive Donner
Starring: Alan Bates and Denholm Elliott

A social-climber acts as an upper class ‘gentleman’ to elevate himself as well as snare the daughter of his boss

This rather good black comedy was based on the 1952 short story The Best of Everything by Stanley Ellin. It features a number of brief shots of the frontages to several London termini, namely Marylebone, Paddington and Waterloo, but no trains are seen. The entrance to Green Park Underground station also appears.

Though there is no denying the location, this is is all we see of Waterloo
Alan Bates alights from a cab outside Marylebone with its famous Porte Cochere forming the backdrop
The entrance to Green Park Underground station, as plain as you can get when compared to the rest
