GOAL! THE DREAM BEGINS

GB
2005
1hr 58mins
Dir: Danny Cannon
Starring: Kuno Becker and Anna Friel

A talented young Mexican is spotted by a Newcastle United scout and given a chance at professional football

This cliched sporting drama was originally titled Goal!, and although it is quite predictable in its plot it is well made with honourable intentions. The film has some good railway shots of GNER IC225s as the highly talented youngster makes his way from London to the northeast, and the continuity for these is admirably good.

Another GNER Mark 4 set is seen crossing a viaduct spmewhere in County Durham. The lack of pantograph tells us that the lead vehicle is the Driving Van Trailer on the London end of the train, and thus heading down south. The identity of the viaduct currently evades me!
Threading its way through Newcastle, a GNER HST approaches the station from the north. Moored in the background is the Tuxedo Princess, the former TSS Caledonian Princess car ferry that was moored beneath the Tyne Bridge as a nightclub from 1983 to 2007. The quayside Guildhall is also visible with its roof cupola.
A GNER Mk4 set arrives into Newcastle Central station at 13:34. With the DVT leading, this train is bound for London.
