RICHARD’S THINGS

GB
1980
1hr 44mins
Dir: Anthony Harvey
Starring: Liv Ullman and Amanda Redman

Following his death, a wife discovers and confronts her husband’s secret lover

This drama is based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Frederic Raphael and features a good scene where Liv Ullman and Amanda Redman travel by train from Windsor & Eton Riverside station. There is a glimpse of a BR blue liveried 2 HAP (or similar) arriving into platform 2 whilst the girls’ board a 4 VEP in the now closed platform 3. A brief sequence follows onboard as the train departs from the station which is followed by a passing shot of a refurbished Class 117 DMU on an embankment.

A busy scene at Windsor & Eton Riverside station sometime in 1980. The unit just arriving on the left could be a 2 HAP.
Liv Ullman and Amanda Redman walk alongside 4 VEP DTC vehicle No.76705. This belonged to unit number 7848 which was delivered new in April 1973 to the South Eastern division for services out of Victoria and Cannon Street. Had this been transferred to the South Western? Or was it off the beaten track?
The scene filmed inside a First Class compartment as the VEP begins to pull out of the station
A Class 117 DMU passes along an embankment wearing the refurbished blue stripe livery which did not wear well because it was difficult to keep clean. This could be working a service on the Slough – Windsor branch but the exact location isn’t known. A lot of filming took place in the Maidenhead area, however, so it is definitely on the Western Region.
