A group of motley Army recruits eventually prove their worth
The first of the Carry On films, based on a play The Bull Boys by R. F. Delderfield, features a railway journey made from a studio set. However, there is a stock shot of an express hauled by SR ‘Lord Nelson’ LN Class 4-6-0 No.859 Lord Hood passing through the centre roads of Headcorn station. This shot appeared first in The Price of Wisdom (1935) and later turned up in The Whisperers 1967 (both qv). The carriage interior scene of the set features the usual ‘back-projection’, and a rake of wagons can be seen passing.
