DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE

GB
1954
1hr 27mins
Dir: Ralph Thomas
Starring: Kenneth More and Muriel Pavlow

The trials and tribulations of a group of medical students at St. Swithin’s Hospital in London

The first of the Doctor series of comedy films proved to be such a success that it spawned six sequels. The film was based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Richard Gordon and, as an interesting aside, producer Betty Box picked up a copy of the book at Crewe during a long rail journey and saw its potential as a film! Doctor in the House features a single middle-distant shot of the frontage to Euston Square Underground station.

This is Gower Street and the Underground roundels mark the entrance to Euston Square station. The station opened as Gower Street in 1863, being renamed Euston Square in 1909.
