VIOLENT MOMENT

GB
1959
1hr 01mins
Dir: Sidney Hayers
Starring: Lyndon Brook and Jane Hylton

A deserter from the British Army kills his girlfriend during a fight and then goes on the run

This B-movie crime drama is based on A Toy for Jiffy, a short story by Roy Vickers from his Department of Dead Ends series that appeared in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine in 1956. The movie features a brief scene at London Marylebone station with a very good shot of ex-LMS Class 4P 2-Cylinder 2-6-4T No.42618 departing on a train of maroon-liveried coaching stock. The film was later released with Edgar Wallace Mystery credits though it is not considered part of the original series of Edgar Wallace films, that were released in British cinemas between 1960 and 1965.

A Stanier 2-6-4T eagerly awaits departure from platform 4 at London Marylebone
A busy scene as passengers make a last minute dash for the train
This excellent shot shows the train departing, thus bringing the identity of the Stanier tank to the fore. Class 4P 2-Cylinder 2-6-4 No.42618 was shedded at Neasden at the time of filming.
Now that the train has gone the station seems strangely deserted. Lyndon Brook cuts a forlorn figure as walks slowly away. Note the water column on the right and the fascinating collection of paraphernalia to the left.
