DOUBLE X THE NAME OF THE GAME

Dir: Shani S. Grewal
Starring: Norman Wsidom and Gemma Craven

A skilled safe-cracker working for a crime syndicate wants out after witnessing the brutal methods of persuasion used by the gang leader

Despite the fact that this was Norman Wisdom’s first film role in 20 years, and despite the fact that it also marked the film debut of Chloë Annett, this was a bad film. The comedy thriller was dreadfully canned by the critics and was a complete flop at the box office yet because of this it has now become a cult classic. It features a couple of brief scenes shot on the concourse of Reading station, but no trains feature. Curiously, the film was based in part on the 1984 David Fleming short story Vengeance which itself was later turned into a film.

Norman Wisdom on the concourse of Reading station, not hugely different to today. Even the post box is still there!
